Web 3.0 :: Web Semántica ::

En la serendipia cotidiana me he encontrado con un material recopilatorio sobre la Web Semántica. Ahí he leído algunas ideas que me parecen especialmente estimulantes y que abren parte de un debate que carece del glamour de la Web 2.0, pero que creemos tendrá muchísimo más trascendencia.

Anderson y Whitelock, editores de un libro colectivo sobre el tema, publicaron “The Educational Semantic Web: Visioning and Practicing the Future of Education” (descargar PDF) y aquí algunos extractos para quienes le interese un tema que volverá con fuerza el 2007:

• The capacity of the Semantic Web to add meaning to information, stored such that it can be searched and processed, provides greatly expanded opportunities for education, simulation and real-time action anywhere on the distributed network.
  
  
• Developments referred to as “social computing” allow humans to make connections with others of like interest; coordinate activities, filter and recommend and otherwise assist fellow learners in acquiring and building new knowledge.
  
  
• For the hackers, it's more like “let's build a city: everybody bring a brick.”
  
  
• The vision of the Semantic Web is based on the capacity for machines to accurately locate, read, interpret and process data created by hundreds of thousands of different individuals and organizations.
  
  
• Nonetheless, the capacity to create powerful learning opportunities, accessible anywhere/anytime that maximize the use of content, social interaction and machine support is equally compelling to educators.

Swoogle el buscador semántico. Es un proyecto desarrollado por el departamento de Ciencias de la Computación e Ingeniería Eléctrica de la Universidad de Maryland, sin ánimo de lucro (como comenzó Google). Al igual que Google, indexa información para poder encontrarla rápidamente, pero en este caso a nivel semántico, basándose en ontologías [vía weblogs.madrimasd.org/bioinformatica].
